Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding
If an individual experiences vaginal bleeding after menopause, while not on their period, or after sex, it is considered to be abnormal. Essentially, any bleeding outside of a regular menstrual cycle can be considered as abnormal vaginal bleeding, including a cycle that lasts longer than 7 days. Many women begin to experience heavy and/or irregular bleeding in their 30s and 40s as they begin to get closer to menopause. Abnormal vaginal bleeding needs to be evaluated as there are many causes, such as fibroids. Some cases of abnormal vaginal bleeding may resolve on their own over time, but it is still so important to investigate the source of this bleeding with your Gyn because it could be caused by something as serious as cancer. In this instance, it is absolutely better to be safe than sorry.
